A two date course using our Hidden Voices materials to help churches combat modern slavery and exploitation in Minehead.
Hidden Voices is an exciting resource which aims to inform and support local communities in taking action on the challenging issue of Modern Slavery within their own communities. Read more about Hidden Voices here.
It’s not just hand car washes and nail bars. Evidence suggests that around a half to two thirds of homeless people have been or will be involved in modern slavery. Many women offering sexual services in Somerset may have been trafficked. Labour exploitation is also rife. The police have made it clear that they cannot prosecute their way out of this problem and need community support.
We know that vulnerability in any form can lead to exploitation. Many churches in Somerset, or their members, are involved in some form of social action project or outreach. We have links into most communities. How can we protect the vulnerable among us?
Please join us on two dates: Saturday 2nd and Saturday 16th March, 10am – 3pm, at YMCA Beach Hotel, The Avenue, Minehead TA24 5AP. Please bring your own lunch.
We will talk about modern slavery in Somerset and think about how the churches can help slavery proof themselves and also work with their communities to tackle the issue.
